Concept:
To create a racing manager game that can be easily adapted for various racing series. The Ultimate Racing Game project is my attempt at making that idea a reality.
Why Racing:
There are a lot of well written strategy games out there, many of which I've played. However, until now there have been no motorsport themed strategy games. As a member of several online racing communities, I\'ve seen first hand the intense interest in racing, and I hope to offer something that appeals to not just to the racing community, but web based gamers in general.
Why did you chose Le Mans racing?
One of the pinnacles of motorsports is the 24 hour endurance race held every year in Le Mans, France. While the event has taken place for many years, until recently it received little notice in the US aside from auto aficionados. Thanks to motorsports focus channels like Speed Channel, coverage of this great event has been available to us in the US.
I chose the Le Mans Series for several reasons. First, the event contains a diverse array of cars, and I felt this would press me as a developer to overbuild the game. The idea was that if I can simulate building and operating an endurance racing team, which pretty much exists to push the boundaries of technology, I could convert the game to simulate any other series including Formula 1, NASCAR, or possibly even WRC.
Currently the game simulates a combined schedule, which I call the hybrid series of URGO. All race dates comes from either the ALMS or LMES calendar, and features a wide array of tracks and venues. In the future, I may change the way this is done, creating two separate arenas one for ALMS and one for LMES. The leaders in each arena would then be invited to a special Le Mans race where they could battle it out for the top honors of motorsports racing.
In addition to that, the fact that Le Mans is recognized around the world also helps achieve the goal of writting a game that's not just for Americans, but for all motorsports fans.
What the future holds
That is a question for the ages. My goal is to make this the best possible racing game online, hence the name. Together with volunteers and racing enthusiasts, I hope to make something that is not only entertaining, but also serves to bring us together as a racing community in spite of our preferences toward leagues or governing bodies.
Part of that vision is currently being put into place through the addition of a news portal that focuses on the racing world. Here players can find new and interesting motorsports articles discuss them amongst themselves as well as submit anything they are interested in.
As time progresses and the game grow, I hope to add additional arenas and series which will come to symbolize the various aspects of the motorsports world. Until then, I invite you to join the fun and participate in the community.
